Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) The original Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) kicks were released in February 1990 and were designed by Hatfield. Some elements were the same from the Air Jordan 4 (IV), but the Nike Air Jordan 5 (V)'s most distinctive unique feature is arguably its reflective tongue. There was also another specific innovation: the clear rubber soles. The soles of the Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) gave the kicks a whole new and unique look.
The Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) also features a base top with lace locks, making strapping on the shoe much easier ; The lacelock feature partly inspired the Nike Air Jordan Spiz'ike. The Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) model is considered to have the best structure and design to wear during basketball games and sold the most pairs of shoes from the Nike Air Jordan line.
Hatfield is believed to have drawn his inspiration for the Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) from the World War II Mustang fighter airplane which is most notably visible in the shark teeth shapes on it's midsole. The Nike Air Jordan 5 (V) kicks were released again in 2000 to high volume demand, including a new colorway featuring Michael Jordan's high school (Laney High) colorways. In 2006 several re-retro Nike Air Jordan 5 (V)'s were released including the very popular LS "Grape" V's, the LS "burgundy" V's and the popular "Fire-Red" V's. Along with the latter, a very limited laser design and the black/metallic/fire red colorways were released in early 2007. |
